Saroj Nayak, Vice President
Saroj Nayak is a postgraduate in Anthropology from Sambalpur University. Saroj has around 20 years of experience in research, consultancy, capacity building, program / project execution, M & E and allied project management functions. He worked with Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar and handled different projects sponsored by bi-lateral and multilateral international and national agencies like DFID, World Bank, UNDP, EU, NABARD, SIDBI, LWS, CAPART, CORDAID, MEMISA, MESIRIOR, CARITAS, etc in the institute. His basic experience relates to rural infrastructure sectors (energy and environment), bio-diversity and adaptation research and rural decentralization. He has hands on experience in working with State Government, Central Government and private organizations. He was the team leader for strengthening rural decentralized governance system, and has developed the SEMF for the OCTMP. Saroj leads the Social Sector Development practice of CTRAN Consulting.
Suvra Majumdar, Vice President
Suvra Majumdar is an electrical engineering graduate and postgraduate in Energy management. He has specific exposure in working in the field of CDM project development and carbon financing , renewable energy based Power generation feasibility study and evaluation, Green House Gas Accounting (Member of India’s first GHG accounting cell), energy audit and energy management in electrical and thermal utilities(Member of association of Energy Engineers, USA). He is also a Certified Energy Auditor from BEE and has hands on knowledge in the field of power system O&M, designing and possess relevant permit (SCC 24367). He has developed CDM projects in a various areas which include natural gas based packaged cogeneration projects in leading textile and plastic industry in Gujarat. He was also involved in developing of CDM projects in natural gas based fuel switch for a gas distribution company in Gujarat, wind power, community and industrial hydro power projects in Maharashtra, waste heat recovery based power generation from sponge iron units in Orissa, sugar cogeneration, biomass based fuel switch and power generation, energy efficiency, lightening energy efficiency and community based biogas programmes. His capacity building experience with the DFID supported project for IPICOL adds to his already enriched experience which includes the strategic advice for promoting of cleaner initiatives in industries as well as in other sectors. In the field of renewable energy he has worked with IISWBM and TERI for WBREDA’s project of master plan preparation of Electrification for off grid island of Indian Sunderbans, Evaluation for solar home lighting system for WBREDA. He has also carried out energy audit in leading ceramic industries in Maharashtra, steel rolling mills and iron and steel foundry in West Bengal. He spearheads the Energy efficiency and Climate change practices of CTRAN.
Barendra Sahoo, Associate Vice President
Barendra Krushna sahoo is a Post Graduate in Rural Development & Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management (PGDHRM). He has over 20 years of experience in Social Research, Market Research, Consultancy, project management functions. He has working experience in different research organisations like ORG, MARG, HDI, Nabakrushna Choudhury Centre for Development Study, Francis Kanoi, Verve Consulting, Black Stone, ERA Consultancy, SAFHI, Eureka Direct Market Survey etc. While working in above organisations he handled different projects sponsored by World Bank, UNDP, UNICEF, Asian Development Bank, DFID, Central Govt. of India, State Government, Biore-India, CYSD, leading Industries and private sector companies. His basic experience relates to Rural & Urban development, Health, Education, Mining, Socio-economic studies, Monitoring & Evaluation, Decentralized Governance, Public Private & Community Participation, Water and Sanitation, Rural energy, Micro-finance, Livelihood Assessment, Bio-diversity studies, Feasibility studies, R & R studies, District Human Development Report etc. His areas of expertise also include Team Orientation, Data coding and Analysis, Reporting and Documentation, Design & Development of tools, FGD guideline, Observation tools, Data Management etc. His recent assignments include projects such as M&E of RAP Implementation of Vishnugad Pipalkoti Hydro Electricity Project, Chamoli, Uttarakhand, Preparation of Comprehensive Management Plan for Ecotourism Sites around Chilika Lake under ICZMP, Odisha, Communication Need Assessment study in Uttarakhand etc.
Dr. Hemant Satapathy, Associate Vice President
Dr. Satapathy is a Ph.D. in Economics with more than Two decades of experience in research, consultancy, capacity building, program / project execution, , action research, M & E and rural decentralization. He has handled different projects sponsored by bi-lateral and multilateral international and national agencies like DFID, World Bank, UNDP, EU, NABARD, SIDBI, LWS, CAPART, CORDAID, MEMISA, MESIRIOR, CARITAS and BD. He was the team leader of Research and Performance assessment of NGO implemented Development Projects during his carrier in XIMB. To his Credit Dr Satapathy has conducted more than 25 Research Projects in the capacity of Team Leader and Principal investigator. He has experience on developing and designing Development Projects in LFA method. He has served as consultant to OXFAM, India and given critical inputs in establishing M& El system in four Development Projects implemented by the partner NNGOs. of OXFAM. Dr. Satapathy has also hands on experience in Development Training.
Swapna Tripathy, Associate Vice President[HR]
Swapna Tripathy is a programme management specialist having experience in proposal development and transaction support. She has worked in the areas of project MIS development and programme management. She has handled capacity building initiatives and consultation workshops. She has a good understanding of the International Development agenda of bilateral and multilateral donors and possesses skills in desk research and report writing. She has extensive hands-on experience on HR initiatives including compensation, performance management, recruiting, compliance reporting, training and development, and benefits administration.She handles the strategic HR and the corporate communication for the organization.
Ashok Patnaik, Associate Vice President
Ashok Patnaik is a Graduate in Agriculture with Master of Agri-Business Management, Post Graduate Diploma in Ecology & Environment and Diploma in Marketing Management having around 27 years of experience in the Government, Corporate & Consultancy sector in Planning, Management, Agriculture/Horticulture/ Plantation Management, Program & Project Management, Relationship Management, Management Consultancy, Strategic & Resources Planning, Capacity Building, Institutional Building, Recruitment, Human Resource Management, and Administration. He has worked with State Government (Department of agriculture, Odisha), JK Group (JK Paper Limited), Birla Group (Mangalam Timber Products Limited), Emami Group (Emami Biotech Limited) & Access Livelihoods Consulting India Limited. He has also successfully handled different projects sponsored by international and national agencies like Action aid International, KNNA, KVK Energy, ICAR, SFAC, IFC, THDC in India & Afghanistan.
Dr. Radhakrushna Panda, Assistant Vice President
Dr. Radhakrushna Panda is a doctorate in Economics having more than 20 years of experience in social science teaching and research. He has been associated with monitoring, evaluation, impact assessment, and process documentation in wide ranging areas including agriculture, water & sanitation, participatory irrigation & watershed development, microfinance, financial inclusion, informal labor, livelihood & the economics of the poor and marginalized. He has done Ph.D. on the topic “Poverty and Public Distribution System in KBK districts of Odisha”. He has successfully handled quite a large number of research/ study projects for the different ministries of Govt. of India, State Government Departments, Bilaterateral and multilateral donor agencies, NABARD, National Advisory Council etc. He was previously associated BIRD, Lucknow as Senior Research Officer. He has taught Economics and Quantitative Techniques to the MBA students of ICFAI Academy, Hyderabad; EBEL, Chennai and M.A. students of Khallikote College, Berhampur. As a consultant, he was also associated with AFC Ltd, Bhubaneswar. He has published more than 40 research papers and edited two books.
Debabrata Mandal, Consultant
Debabrata Mandal is post graduate in Social Work from Utkal University of Culture has over 20 years of experience in the field of social development sector. He has vast experience in the diversified field of Livelihood Promotion, disaster Risk Reduction and response, monitoring and evaluation, capacity building, micro-enterprise promotion, research. He was also involved in multi-lateral project like LWSI (INGO), CSR-Aditya Birla, Catalyst Management Service and Sutra Consulting, He worked in various levels with WORLP, ISGP, PACS, NCA, National Fertilizer Limited-Bijaypur, KUSP, Urban Local bodies, EDUKAN and KKS-BMZ-Germany. He has also extensive knowledge and experience in community development and capacity building, institutional development and also agriculture development sector. He also worked in “Making the Right to Education Reality Mohanpur, West Bengal” supported by KKS-BMZ-Germany. He also served as State coordinator for DFID supported PACS2-Impact evaluation Programme and Strategic Planning about the scaling up West Bengal operation. He has been awarded as Best Self-Help Cooperative by Nuapada District Administration during January 2008 and “Prakitimitra”-Bhuinpani Watershed by Government of Orissa during June 2007.
Kader Mridha, Consultant
Kader Mridha posses more than 8.0 years of consulting experience in Social, Climate Change & Environment field. His professional history includes positions such as Sr. Consultant (Environment) at M/s. CTRAN Consulting Ltd, Project Coordinator (EIA- Accredited Water Quality Expert) at M/s. Global Experts Pvt. Ltd. and Project Manager at M/s. Consulting Engineers Group Ltd. Presently, here at M/s. CTRAN, he is mainly responsible for developing proposal including research methodology, designing study tools and report writing of Social, Climate Change & Environmental Project.
His relevant qualifications includes Post Graduate (eqv. to Masters) in Environment Management and Dilpoma in Business Entrepreneurship from Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. He also possess 3 months Post Graduate Certificate in Ground Water Development & Management from CGWA, Kolkata.
Preetiranjan Jena, Consultant
Preetiranjan is a successful profit-driven management graduate qualified by over 5 years of experience. He is a futurist leader and team player with stellar track record of building teams from scratch. He brings with him a diversified work experience from both private sector and Government sector. A result oriented work driven professional with MBA in finance/operations(XIMB) and Engineering in Electronics/communication(KIIT
Currently working for Government project consulting(Maharashtra Government) POCRA(Project on climate resilient agriculture) in the areas of Finance and Procurement. He has prepared successful business plans for farmer producer companies. Prior to this, he has an I.T experience of 4 years in application development, testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
Mr. Prakash Panigrahi has more than 2 decades of experience in public accounting, banking and private industry accounting. In CTRAN he is responsible preparing and submitting reports and filings in compliance with local government laws, providing assistance to program staff and project budget preparation, Internal audit, corporate taxation, financial statement preparation, as well as coordinating the firm’s audit and tax teams which handle year-end financial statements and tax work.
Ishani Mohanty is a graduate in Forestry from Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar. She has a good exposure to the forest sectors and acquainted with works of enumeration of forest areas, documentation and analysis of livelihood generation activities, forest management planning and report writing.
Upendra Kumar Panda
Upendra Kumar Panda is a Master in Social Work (MSW) from Utkal University. He has more than 14 years of experience in Social research and Development Projects. He has vast experience in conducting Quantitative and Qualitative studies in different parts of Odisha and other states of India. He has been actively involved in M&E projects of Livelihood, Health, R&R, Forestry, and Education etc. He has o worked on various assignments with bilateral agencies. He has also worked in action plan implementation projects, documentation, front line demonstration, conducting training, Community mobilization, institutional building and concept selling.
Gangadhar Acharya, Associate Consultant
Gangadhar Acharya is an Arts Graduate with more than twenty years of experience in conducting various social development research projects and in the field of research with primary and secondary data compilation. He has vast experience in conducting Quantitative and Qualitative studies in different parts of Orissa and other parts of the country. He has been actively involved in M&E projects of Health, R&R, Forestry, Socio-economic studies and Education etc. He has experience in coordination with the government officials for secondary data from various departments like Mining, Health, Panchayati Raj, Water Resources, Education etc. He has also worked on various assignments with the bilateral agencies. Since last sixteen years he has been working on issues relating to livelihood, water and sanitation, rural energy issues, Micro-finance, Health, Education, Mining and socio-economic areas. He has managed various assignments in these areas and is a key member of the Social Transformation Group.
Shankar Shan Patro has over seven years of experience in Geospatial field with expertise in ESRI technology, including project management, data analysis and modeling, and workflow methodology design work, performing suitability analyses and creating automated GIS tools for a diverse client base. His professional expertise includes Generation and extraction of geo-referenced map, ground trothing, DGPS analysis, TBM formation, Monitoring and Evaluation of Extracted Maps, its attribution and legendry changes ensuring its veracity. His other assignments include GPS based survey of health centres of Orissa supported by NRHM, Assessment of ground water potential in Khurda and Cuttack District, Generating base map, land-use/land cover map, and contour and drainage maps for Sairam&Sunayana Pvt. Ltd., Watershed projects, involving field survey & generating maps. Shankar holds a Post Graduate Diploma in RS & GIS from Utkal University.
Maguni Charan Sahu, Assistant Manager-Admin
Maguni is a graduate in Anthropology and a management graduate [MBA] from Sambalpur University. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application (PGDCA). He has about 12 years of diversified experience in Govt. and Non-Govt. Organisations. He is a Computer Professional with experience in all types of Computer works(Graphics & Report design, data base management [MIS] & documentation etc.He has also extensive knowledge and experience in Social Research. During his stint with XIMB he was involved as MIS specialist for projects like Women Empowerment Through Self Help (WETSH), Institution Initiatives for Food Security(IIFS),WEIGIE,Capacity Building for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management(CBDRRM) ,Cluster Level Resource Centre(CLRC) and Comprehensive District Plan Projects(CDPP)

Protusha Biswas, Associate Consultant
Protusha is a post graduate in Climate Science and Policy from TERI University, New Delhi. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from University of Calcutta. Prior to CTRAN, Protusha worked as a Research associate in The Celestial Earth, Gurgaon. She has completed her Master’s thesis work at CTRAN Consulting, on a climate change adaptation and vulnerability assessment project in Odisha. She completed her summer internship from School of Oceanographic Studies, Jadavpur University, Kolkata on air-water carbon flux from aquaculture ponds of East Kolkata Wetlands.
Shaloni Dash, Associate Consultant
Shaloni is a Postgraduate in Environment Science and Resources Management from TERI School of Advanced Studies, New Delhi. Prior to CTRAN, Shaloni worked as a Program Manager at Ashden India Renewable Energy Collective, New Delhi. She has completed her Master’s thesis work at GIZ, New Delhi where she was involved in action research on impact analysis of solar-powered irrigation system in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal through water-energy-food nexus. She worked as a summer intern at CEEW, New Delhi and was involved in solar based drip irrigation calculating water, fertilizer and energy savings and developing an insurance mechanism to leverage from carbon market for a climate resilient agriculture system. She has also worked as the Project Manager (communications) at the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UNSDSN), Regional South Asia. Shaloni has a degree of BSc. in Zoology from Hansraj College, Delhi University. She specializes in Energy access to rural areas and project management tools.
Priya Patil, Associate Consultant
Priya is an experienced professional with a demonstrated history of working in the non-profit organizations and management industry. She has completed her post graduate diploma in forestry management focused on the environment from the Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal. She has also pursued Integrated M.Tech in Biotechnology from Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneswar. Priya has also served as a Laboratory Manager at Wellcome Trust Research Laboratory based at Christian Medical College, Vellore. She also has experience of serving as an MIS Expert for a project of UNFPA during her tenure at Samarthan-center for development support.
Dev Kumar Dutta, Associate Consultant
Dev is an MBA graduate in Sustainability Management from XIMB, with specialization in Finance. Prior to that, he did his graduation in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from ITER (Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University). During his MBA program, he did his summer internship program with Darashaw and Consulting Private Limited for 2 months where he was involved with the Sustainability Consulting team and worked on Bid Document Management. He has also worked with Central Himalayan Institute for Nature & Applied Research (CHINAR) for 1 month in Kullu Valley (Himachal Pradesh) and did a project on Himalayan Ecosystem. During his MBA program, he has successfully completed an Individual Research Project on an empirical study on the financial health of renewable firms in India (Risk Management). His areas of interest include Climate Change Action Plans, Climate Change mitigation and adaptation techniques, Sustainability Reporting and Financial Analytics.
